Historic District

The City of Dalton Historic Preservation Commission and The City of Dalton Administrative Staff have compiled the publication “Residential Design Review Guidelines Dalton, Georgia” for the National Register Designation for the Thornton Avenue/Murray Hill Subdivision and  McCarty Subdivision.  Under the heading Site and Setting, on Page 37 – Landscaping; “GOAL:  Maintain and preserve the original landscape features, especially protecting mature shade trees to define the character of this historic neighborhood.”  Bullet line item #4 states: “Original landscape feature shall be preserved and maintained.  Trees should not be cut without the approval of the Tree Board.  Appropriate pruning of trees can also be suggested for mature trees by the Tree Board to extend the life of the tree.”

Because of the importance in preserving the National Register Historic Designation for these subdivisions the Tree Board has provided special training to prune or remove trees in The Historic Districts for the following individuals.

This training will be held on an as needed basis for anyone who wishes to be included.

Please report anyone soliciting to cut trees in McCarty Subdivisionor Murray Hill, without this special training to the City Council Representative: Tate O’Gwin
